Cleanroom HVAC Design Calculator

HOW DOES THE CLEANROOM CALCULATOR WORK?

For every classified room (ISO 8, ISO 7, ISO 6, ISO 5) in your cleanroom project (anteroom/gowning room, clean zone, etc.), complete a separate row in the table with:

  • Room length (ft)
  • Room width (ft)
  • Room height (ft)
  • Cleanroom class (ISO 8, ISO 7, ISO 6, ISO 5)
  • Process generating particles
  • Lighting level

What can you determine with our cleanroom calculator tool?

  • Total airflow in cubic feet per minute (CFM) needed for the cleanroom project
  • Air changes per hour (ACH) per classified room (ISO 8, ISO 7, ISO 6, ISO 5)
  • Quantity of low air returns
  • Quantity of HEPA filters
  • Quantity of lighting fixtures

CLEANROOM CFM CALCULATOR

For the calculation, we assume 10 to 30 air changes per hour (ACH) for an ISO 8; 30 to 65 ACH for an ISO 7; 80 to 150 ACH for an ISO 6; 200 to 450 ACH for an ISO 5. If there is a significant generation of particles in the process, we use the higher number in the range.

Disclaimer: This is a rule of thumb only. A lot of aspects are not taken into consideration for the calculation, including but not limited to, heat gain, number of people, the use of a fume hood, etc. Clean room HVAC design calculations should be computed by a clean room HVAC specialist.

Use a separate table for every classified room in your clean room project (anteroom/gowning room, clean zone, etc.) by clicking on “+Add a room”. Once you are done, click “Calculate”.

Ceiling height is usually 8 or 9 feet high. This estimation tool is not suitable for ceiling height over 10 feet.

In drug compounding, ISO 5 is usually reached inside the laminar airflow workbench (LAFW) located in a classified ISO 7 class cleanroom. Therefore, for this particular application, a classified ISO 5 room is not necessary.

This estimation tool is not suitable for an ISO 5 class cleanroom or lower. A different and more complex calculation is required along with the use of unidirectional airflow. Contact our expert to discuss your project.

Please make sure that all the above fields are valid.
